Maybe I'm running into open doors with this but since this movie rarely gets a mention these days, I thought doing a post about it would be a good idea. If you know it already, then take this as an inducement to watch it again. And for those who don't know... well, you're in for an insane ride...

Tetsuo by cult director Shinya Tsukamoto is without a doubt in every all-time-top-ten list of Cyberpunk movies and it doesn't get more industrial than this. Made in 1989, this black and white avant-garde film with a runtime of about one hour doesn't come with ordinary storytelling. Its highly aestheticised structure is a bit scattered, although you can make out what it is about: a man, who's body turns into some sort of cyborg or robot and encounters... different situations, as he gradually... rots or rusts (?) In this respect, the movie's appearance isn't too far from David Lynch's Eraserhead. Indeed, Lynch's masterpiece could serve as a good measure for you to decide if you can bear (or even like) Tetsuo. But this one goes further as it is more... uptempo and strident, so to speak.

Needles to say that you surely shouldn't be faint-hearted as it is rated 18+ in most countries. But if violence, sex, insanity, flesh, industrial decay, steel and metal (...tons of it) sounds like an interesting combination to you, then give it a go. (For an extra portion of masochism: watch it when you have a bad headache - pain-galore, guaranteed! ...speaking of own experiences here... ;-)

You can probably find it online but this cult-movie deserves a proper home cinema style of watching. Good video rental stores should have it too, maybe you've got to ask for it. Vielleicht renne ich hiermit ja offene Türen ein, aber da dieser Film heutzutage selten erwähnt wird, dachte ich, dass es keine schlechte Idee wäre darüber zu schreiben. Falls ihr den schon kennt, dann nehmt das einfach als Anlass ihn nochmal zu schauen. Und für die, die ihn nicht kennen... nun, ihr lasst euch da auf einen wahnsinnigen Ritt ein...

Tetsuo von Kult-Regisseur Shinya Tsukamoto ist zweifellos in jeder Top-10-Aller-Zeiten-Liste der Cyberpunk-Filme zu finden und es geht sicher nicht mehr "industrial" als hier. 1989 gedreht, hat dieser schwarz-weiße Avantgarde-Film mit einer Länge von ca. einer Stunde keinen herkömmlichen Handlungsablauf. Seine sehr ästhetisierte Struktur ist etwas fragmentarisch, obwohl man schon mitbekommt, worum es geht: ein Mann, dessen Körper sich in eine Art Cyborg oder Roboter verwandelt und... in verschiedene Situationen gerät, während er langsam... verfault oder verrostet (?) In dieser Hinsicht ist die Erscheinung des Films nicht allzu weit von David Lynch's Eraserhead entfernt. Tatsächlich könnt ihr Lynch's Meisterwerk als Maßstab nehmen, um zu entscheiden, ob ihr mit Tetsuo klarkommt (oder ihn sogar mögt). Aber dieser hier geht noch ein Stück weiter, weil er ein höheres Tempo hat und schriller ist... sozusagen.

Es muss nicht extra erwähnt werden, dass ihr gewiss keine schwachen Nerven haben solltet, da der Film in den meisten Ländern erst ab 18 empfohlen wird. Aber falls Gewalt, Sex, Wahnsinn, Fleisch, industrieller Niedergang, Stahl und Metall (...tonnenweise) nach einer interessanten Mischung für euch klingt, dann probiert ihn einfach mal aus. (Für eine Extra-Portion an Masochismus: schaut ihn, wenn ihr starke Kopfschmerzen habt - Schmerz in Hülle und Fülle ist garantiert! ...ich spreche aus eigener Erfahrung... ;-)

Wahrscheinlich könnt ihr ihn Online finden, aber dieser Kult-Film verdient ein anständiges Heimkino-Erlebnis. Gute Videotheken sollen ihn auch haben, vielleicht müsst ihr danach fragen.
